Underground mining methods are likely to be used for a project in South Africa to supply coal gas to an independent power producer, according to a published report.
The project is well within advanced stages for planning purposes, Mining Weekly reports. Johan Brand and Eliphus Monkoe, formerly Sasol executives, purchased 1.4 billion tons of coal from BHP Billiton. They are joining efforts with African Carbon Energy, which has been in operation since 2007.
